The SMJ enables physicians to provide the best possible care to patients in this age of rapidly changing modern medicine.  Therefore, the readers of the SMJ are an appropriate target for this article.

Oncoplastic breast surgery uses both oncologic and plastic surgery techniques for breast conservation to improve cosmetic outcomes. In this study, the risk factors associated with complications after oncoplastic breast reduction is evaluated.  Upon completion of this course, the learner should be able to:

  • Provide quantitative data to patients about the occurrence rate of early postoperative complications after bilateral oncoplastic breast surgery
  • Identify the process of careful selection and informed consent for patients who are considering these procedures.
