Goals and Objectives

Over the last year, the importance of keeping up to date with the clinical literature has never been more necessary. In this presentation, we will review practice changing updates that occurred between May 2020 and May 2021. Highlights from this presentation will include the use of SGLT2i in patients with CKD, DOACs and the treatment of cancer associated thrombosis, timing of surgery after COVID infection, IV iron for acute heart failure, duration of antibiotics after clinical stability in CAP, and the PENFAST tool for determining significant PCN allergy. At the conclusion of this activity, the learner should be able to:

  • Identify the 3 core tenets of evidence-based practice (EBP);
  • Define the criteria for determining whether evidence is practice changing or not;
  • Evaluate 6 recent practice changing articles in general internal medicine;
  • Assess the limitations of evidence for certain questions based on the PICO format.
