Gary A. Delaney, MD, Orangeburg, South Carolina, was installed as the 2012-2013 President of the Southern Medical Association (SMA) on November 17 in Nashville, Tennessee during the 2012 Healthcare Summit at the Presidents' Installation and Awards Luncheon.
Dr. Delaney currently practices Anesthesiology at the Regional Medical Center in Orangeburg, South Carolina. After receiving his medical degree from The University of Kentucky, Dr. Delaney completed an Anesthesiology residency at University Hospital in Lexington, Kentucky.
At a young age, Dr. Delaney found his calling to care for others. However, it was during his professional years, and as a Board Member to the South Carolina Medical Association, that he found his calling to be an advocate for organized medicine.
As a physician dedicated to organized medicine, Dr. Delaney has held the position of president for both the Edisto Medical Society, as well as the South Carolina Society of Anesthesiologists. Currently, he also holds membership with the American Society of Anesthesiologists, the International Anesthesia Research Society, the American Medical Association, and the Southern Medical Association.
Dr. Delaney is the Immediate Past President of the South Carolina Medical Association. Dr. Delaney is a dedicated advocate of Southern Medical Association and more importantly an advocate for organized medicine. His dedication to organized medicine has allowed him to make many contacts throughout his state and the nation. Dr. Delaney’s wit and enthusiasm make him a valuable leader and role model among all physicians.
Dr. Delaney and his wife Gail currently live in Orangeburg, SC. They have five children, Michael, Andy, Sarah, Joseph and Frances, as well as eight grandchildren.
