LEARNING GAP/NEEDS/PURPOSE
Today's physicians are encountering a rapidly changing healthcare environment. The purpose of this activity is to provide an overall perspective on a broad range of issues affecting physicians and to provide some insight as to how physicians may become more engaged and able to facilitate the direction of healthcare. Healthcare reform, ambulatory outreach, physician leadership, the rise of consumerism, modern healthcare facility design, achieving effective communication, documentation, and an update on IT, not be restricted to physician participants.

Objectives:  Upon completion, attendees should be better prepared to:

  • Describe the core concepts of servant leadership; Provide examples of servant leaders and their accomplishments; Demonstrate the value of servant leadership in the healthcare setting
  • Convey the unique pace of change that is occurring within this industry; Provide a model that fosters physician engagement and promotes high quality care; Provide examples of nationally recognized physician leaders; Describe specific areas of opportunity for physician leaders
  • Describe the challenges in the surgical setting; Illustrate opportunities for physician engagement; Provide examples of existing programs
  • Discuss the current gap in evidence-based knowledge and the practical application of this evidence into clinical practice; Describe current recommendations on how best to introduce best practices into a clinical environment; Assess how social media may provide an enhanced experience for healthcare providers, health systems and patients
  • Gain an understanding as to current state of health care; Convey the unique pace of change that is occurring within this industry; Provide a model that fosters physician engagement and promotes high quality care
  • Provide examples of nationally recognized physician leaders; Describe specific areas of opportunity for physician leaders
  • Discuss the history of the Chief Medical Officer role; Provide insights into the changing needs for physician leadership
  • Describe the core concepts of servant leadership; Provide examples of servant leaders and their accomplishments; Demonstrate the value of servant leadership in the healthcare setting
  • Describe the current physician practice standards and licensure issues influencing telemedicine usage; Describe the current coverage and reimbursement issues influencing telemedicine usage
  • Demonstrate the significance of employer-sponsored health insurance in the US health insurance market; Discuss methods of cost-sharing with workers and the most common structures of employer-sponsored health plans
  • Describe the changing science of cancer treatment; Convey the
    challenges posed by the increasing costs and limited access; Propose solutions to handling treatment choices and end-of-life decisions
