Abstract

SUMMARYA group of patients with cornea guttata who had cataract surgery is reviewed. Factors deleterious to postoperative cornea clarity in cataract surgery with cornea guttata, in order of their importance seem to be: (1) trauma to the corneal endothelium; (2) loss of vitreous with vitreous contact against the cornea; and (3) postoperative iritis. Although no absolute protection can be claimed for any particular technic, such as use of a scleral section, sector iridectomy, sliding delivery of the lens, enzymatic zonulysis, or the use of the cryo-stylet or forceps instead of the erisophake, it is assumed that these are helpful factors, which reduce the possibility of corneal trauma, which otherwise might lead to a permanent corneal dystrophy.
