Abstract

In an effort to adapt to changing educational requirements, a new technic of teaching psychiatry to medical students has been introduced at the Medical University of South Carolina. The technic, which is intended to substitute for lectures, preserves individualized instruction and appears to promote efficient learning. The combination of videotaped clinical illustrations with a programmed textbook may improve the quality of education by giving the student a broader perspective of emotional illness and a better opportunity to practice and integrate clinical skills than is possible with the traditional lecture system or other programmed formats.
