Pitfalls in Diabetes Detection During the Diagnostic Study

Authors: JOHN A. OWEN JR ., MD, BROWN W. DENNIS, MD, GUY HOLLIFIELD, MD

Abstract

This study revealed an unprecedented number of mild diabetics, easily controlled with Iittre or no treatment. The authors suggest that even if these patients have true diabetes, practicalities of manpower shortage make it undesirable to treat them as having full-blown disease. It seems better to use age-adjusted criteria in interpreting the glucose tolerance tests.
