Practical Variations in the Use of the Deltopectoral Flap

Authors: WILLIAM B. NICKELL MD, KENNETH E. SALYER MD, MIGUEL A. VARGAS MD

Abstract

AbstractThe deltopectoral flop has become important in the reconstruction of patients having major head and neck resections. Since its original description, its use has become widespread. The authors describe three variations in the use of this flap which considerably add to the armamentarium of the reconstructive surgeon. These are primary folding of the flap, total inset of the flap, and splitting of the flap tip. Each type of variation and the indications for its use are described with illustrative cases.
