Prolonged Renal Failure Following Allotransplantation of Cadaver Kidney

Authors: NICHOLAS A. VINER, MD, EDWARD V. STAAB, MD, JOHN R. ACKERMANN, MD

Abstract

The case described here illustrates that renal failure after transplantation may be unusually extended and yet be reversible. By the use of radioactive hippuran and biopsy this complication was managed with ultimate success. The authors speculate as to the effect of deficient perfusion of the kidney in the preagonal period of the donor's life as a factor in renal failure after transplantation.
