Radiation Hypophysectomy with Gold-198

Abstract

Hypophysectomy has been used in instances of widespread metastases from cancer of the breast as a palliative measure. In an effort to avoid open surgery in these very ill patients, irradiation of the pituitary gland has been employed. The author discusses his experience of placing radioactive gold in the sella turcica via the transnasal route.
