Abstract

Subcutaneous fat necrosis is a relatively common but poorly understood disorder of the newborn. This paper, which includes five cases, outlines the differing features of this condition from sclerema neonatorum and other conditions and emphasizes the occurrence of hypercalcemia and serious systemic manifestations which are often poorly appreciated.
