Abstract

The symptoms and signs of fat embolism usually make themselves known about 24 hours after fractures, especially of long bones. If the patient survives, the clinical manifestations usually clear completely. Heparin acts to clear the blood vessels of emboli more quickly than normal. There is reason to believe that this occurs also in humans.
