An Evaluation of Fluorescence Microscopy in Exfoliative Vaginal Cytology

Authors: RAYMOND H. KAUFMAN M.D., FRANK E. TUXWORTH M.D., JESSE L. WALLACE M.D.

Abstract

The authors have made a comparison of the accuracy of the fluorescent staining technic with the Papanicolaou method of evaluating the exfoliating cells in the female genital tract. The former is more quickly done and with reasonable accuracy by relatively untrained personnel. More comparative studies will be needed before a determination can be made as to which method should be accepted for screening purposes.
