Effect of Ampicillin on the Radioiodohippurate Renogram

Authors: WILLIAM H. WAUGH, MD, A. ILHAN OZDEMIR, MD

Abstract

The tubular excretion of contrast media may be blocked in the kidney by substances which compete with these media. This study demonstrated that ampicillin does not decrease the excretion of radiohippuran because therapeutic levels are below the levels of tubular saturation. This might not be true in patients with azotemia.
