Macrodactyly of the Foot surgical Syndactyly After Wedge Resection

Authors: LIEBE S. DIAMOND MD, VICTOR E. GOULD MD

Abstract

AbstractMacrodactyly has been defined as the static or progressive enlargement of the digits, and may be due to congenital neurofibromatasis or unknown cause. The megalopathy involves all of the structures of the digits, but the bony structures are less involved than the soft tissues. The patient reported has been treated by all of the conventional methods, including epiphysiodesis and resection of hamartomotous tissue, concluding with a major wedge resection of the medial aspect of the second toe and the lateral aspect of the hallux. The reduction Syndactyly narrowed the foot by two and one-half shoe'sizes and reduced the disproportion to a more esthetically acceptable level.
