Authors: E. Lloyd Wilbur, M.D., Joseph B. Stevens, M.D.

Abstract

SUMMARYTwo cases of death following artificial hyper-pyrexia and one of sunstroke have been presented. In addition, four cases in the literature have been reviewed. The most consistent findings in these cases were congestion, petechial hemorrhages, and diffuse early hepatic necrosis. Evidence of damage to the central nervous system was found in only one case. This was characterized by degenerative changes in the astrocytes.
