Reconstructive Surgery After Jejunoileal Bypass or Gastric Partition Operations

Authors: HAL G. BINGHAM MD, Gainesville, Fla

Abstract

ABSTRACTTwenty-five morbidly obese patients had plastic operations to remove redundant tissue after either Jejunoileal bypass or gastric partition. The average weight loss in this group of patients was 79.9 kg (176 Ib) and the average age was 32 years. Abdominoplasty was the most common operation, and, although there was no mortality, postoperative complications were common and usually related to wound healing. The average hospital stay was ten days. Most of these patients were pleased with their results and lived happier and more productive lives.
