Abstract

Abstract:The lymphocyte responsiveness of ten patients with chronic lymphocytic leukemia was studied with respect to B and T cell function. A depression in responsiveness to phytohemagglutinin and pokeweed mitogen and in mixed lymphocyte cultures was observed. The percentage of T cells in the circulating lymphoidal pool also was decreased as measured by the rosette-formation test. These results would indicate that the depressed T cell function may be related to a dilutional effect owing to the large number of B cells known to occur in this disease.
