About the SMArtBowl

This in-person medical trivia competition, taking place during SMA’s Annual Scientific Assembly, brings together medical students and residents to compete for monetary prizes, socialize with peers, and continue SMA’s tradition of medical excellence. This evening offers the chance to take home the coveted SMA Physicians-in-Training Medical Excellence Award. The Inaugural SMArtBowl Medical Trivia Competition was held at the Annual Scientific Assembly in 2022 and began what will be a new tradition at the meeting.

Funding and support of the SMartBowl are made possible through donations to SMA’s Research and Education Endowment Fund.

Who Can Compete?
Teams of up to 4 medical students and/or residents are eligible to participate. Join a fun-filled and an adrenaline-fueled in-person competition to compete and test you and your team's medical knowledge. Participants will enjoy socializing with peers and helping to continue SMA’s tradition of medical excellence! 

*Please note that team slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.

Why Should Teams Participate?
This is an evening of fun and a chance to take home the coveted SMA PIT Medical Excellence Award, as well as monetary awards!

When Can Teams Register?
Team registration opens annually in June. 

Rules and Items of Note

• SMArtBowl 2025 Rules
• Due to time constraints, there are only 4 team slots available.
• Team slots are filled on a first-come, first-served basis.
• Registration ends when all team slots are filled. 
• Each team member must pay the Assembly registration fee once the team has been accepted to compete in the SMArtBowl.
