COVID-19 Health Disparities in the American South

Pandemics can amplify health disparities; for all its strengths as a vibrant, multicultural region, the American South is still grappling with policies that perpetuate social, economic, and health disparities. This interview highlights these disparities and offers insight into what all stakeholders, including policy makers and healthcare providers can do to address this issue.

Jennifer Mandelbaum is a program evaluator at the South Carolina Department of Health and Environmental Control and doctoral student in Health Promotion, Education, and Behavior at the University of South Carolina Arnold School of Public Health. Jennifer’s scholarship aims to better understand how evidence-based research on chronic disease prevention is translated equitably into public health practice.
