The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Diana Ferrigno, BS, and Ethan Jetter, MPH, to SMA’s Physician-in-Training (PIT) Committee.

Diana is a fourth-year medical student at Nova Southeastern University with a passion for radiology, women's health, leadership, collaboration, and community service. She has led student organizations and organized local fundraisers and volunteer initiatives.

Diana shared that her motivation for serving comes from a desire to give back and strengthen connections among trainees. “I hope to serve on this committee to give back to my fellow physicians-in-training and future generations of trainees by creating a supportive space for connection, collaboration, opportunity, and networking.”

Ethan is a medical student at the University of Florida College of Medicine, and is expected to graduate in 2026. He plans to pursue a residency in psychiatry with the goal of practicing child and adolescent psychiatry. Outside of medicine, Ethan enjoys working out, particularly powerlifting, and staying active outdoors.

He explained that his interest in joining the committee is rooted in his passion for advancing medical education and fostering growth among peers. “Serving on this committee would allow me to contribute to programming, conferences, and content development that empower medical students and residents across the South, while continuing to grow as a leader in psychiatry and academic medicine.”

The duties of the Physicians-in-Training Committee are to participate in the development and evaluation of educational activities and programming of the Association aimed at pre‐medical students, medical students, interns, residents, and fellows. The Physicians‐in‐Training Committee will assist the Association in building the Association’s Foundational Pillar that recognizes that physicians in training have importance, special needs, and concerns, and will support their growth and development in their future healthcare careers.
