Activity Description

These are a series of webinars taken from the Chief Residents Summit on Intensifying Diabetes Management (a non-CME three-day weekend for family medicine residents around the country). Webinars covering lifestyle management, pharmacology, and insulin are recorded and offered for enduring CME to all interested clinicians.

Target Audience

Physicians and all other healthcare professionals.

Learning Objectives

Upon completion of the lesson, attendees will be able to:

  • Develop strategies for improving patient adherence to diabetes regimens, including effective self-management.
  • Analyze and apply methods for overcoming therapeutic inertia in diabetes management, such as motivational interviewing and shared decision-making.
  • Describe effective dietary, exercise, and psychosocial interventions for patients with diabetes.
  • Review evidence-based recommendations from the most recent clinical society guidelines across the spectrum of diabetes management.
  • Design individualized treatment regimens that include appropriate dosing strategies for antihyperglycemic drugs based on patient characteristics and treatment response.
  • Compare and contrast the various types of insulin as well as the risks and benefits of insulin therapy for a given patient.
  • Prescribe therapeutic regimens for patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D) that incorporate drugs with benefits for comorbid conditions, including GLP-1 receptor agonists, and SGLT-2 inhibitors.
