Brian M. Schneider, MD, MS, FACS, Appointed to SMA’s Education Committee

The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is pleased to announce that Brian M. Schneider, MD, MS, FACS, has been appointed to the Association’s Education Committee.

Dr. Schneider is an Associate Professor of Burn Surgery and Surgical Critical Care at Texas Tech University Health Sciences Center in Lubbock, Texas. He serves as Interim Medical Director of the UMC Timothy J. Harnar Burn Center and Co-Director of the Burn Center of Research Excellence. Board certified in both General Surgery and Surgical Critical Care, Dr. Schneider’s professional interests include burn care, critical care, trauma, medical education, multidisciplinary clinical practice, and improving the care of severely injured patients.

Throughout his academic career, Dr. Schneider has been actively involved in teaching and mentoring medical students, residents, fellows, and allied health professionals. His educational leadership experience includes serving as Surgery Clerkship Director, Associate Program Director for a General Surgery Residency, medical school Block Co-Director, and Medical Director of a Respiratory Therapy Care Program. His work in burn surgery and surgical critical care also brings a multidisciplinary perspective to medical education and the translation of evolving evidence into practical clinical teaching.
