Activity Description

This meeting is designed to bring together members of the burn team who are responsible for the care of pediatric burn care specialists.

Nutrition should be regarded as an essential therapeutic element in pediatric critical care, with individualized nutrition interventions provided according to each patient's age and medical condition.

Delivering personalized nutritional support requires strong clinical judgment and critical thinking, supported by a multidisciplinary team that includes physicians, pharmacists, dietitians, and nurses with specialized expertise.

This activity will review the importance of proper food and nutrition in the critical ill patient with a focus on the pediatric burn patient.

Goals and Objectives

Upon completion of this activity, attendees will be able to:

• Establish caloric requirements for different ages/weights.  Discuss how nutritional requirements change with age and the effects on critical illness
• Define resources a speech therapist brings to care and how they evaluate and treat pediatric patients.
• Instill the benefits to providers of taste testing and how the various formulas taste and their various components
