Prior to this study, limited knowledge existed regarding the morbidity and mortality risks associated with surgery for acute or chronic colon conditions when concomitant COVID-19 infection was present. Advances regarding the prevention and management of COVID-19 infection can reduce the risk of developing infection with COVID- 19 and associated morbidity or mortality.

Patients do not always adhere to recommended prevention, evaluation and acute/chronic management measures for their acute or chronic conditions. Clinicians can help motivate and educate patients and caregivers regarding advances in care.

Upon completion of this activity, learners should now know:

• How to recognize and discuss the increased risks of colon surgery associated with concomitant COVID-19 infection during the COVID-19 pandemic. (Knowledge)

Upon completion of this activity, learners should now be able to:

• Describe the importance of preventing and managing exacerbations of acute or chronic colon conditions to reduce risk of needing surgical interventions. (Competence)

Upon completion of this activity, learners will be able to make the following change:

• Integrate and practice evidence-based and team-based evaluation and management for acute/chronic colon conditions and prevention/management of complicating superimposed infections. (Performance)
