During this presentation, Dr. Robert Baillieu discusses various of substance use disorders (SUD) such as the use of validated screening tools for SUD and risk factors for substance use, including mental disorders; diagnosis and assessment of individuals who screen positive for SUDs, and the initiation and management of FDA approved medications for SUDs.

At the conclusion of the activity, learners should be better prepared to:

• Understand evidence-based interventions.
• Identify the use of validated screening tools for SUD and risk factors for substance use, including mental disorders.
• Utilize patient and family education on safety and overdose prevention (diversion control; safe storage; use of naloxone).
