SMA Celebrates Physicians on Doctors’ Day

Doctors' Day is March 30
March 30, 2026 // Southern Medical Association

Today, the Southern Medical Association (SMA) proudly recognizes Doctors’ Day—a meaningful occasion dedicated to honoring physicians and their enduring contributions to patient care and the medical profession.

Officially designated as National Doctors’ Day by President George H.W. Bush on October 30, 1990, the observance has strong ties to SMA’s history. Its origins trace back to members of the Barrow County, Georgia Alliance, affiliated with SMA, who first envisioned a day to recognize and thank physicians for their leadership and service in medicine.

On Doctors’ Day—and every day—SMA expresses its deep appreciation for physicians whose dedication, expertise, and compassion continue to shape the health and well-being of communities across the country. Their commitment to advancing care and improving lives remains at the heart of medicine.
