The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is pleased to announce Amna Bint I Munir, MBBS, has been appointed to the newly formed International Medical Graduate (IMG) Support & Advocacy Ad Hoc Committee.

“As an international medical graduate myself, I’ve personally experienced the challenges, uncertainties, and resilience required to navigate the path toward residency in the U.S.,” Dr. Munir said of her desire to join the committee. “I want to help create a space where IMGs feel truly seen, supported, and valued” by contributing to initiatives that foster connection and provide accessible resources.

Dr. Munir is a PGY-2 Internal Medicine resident at North Alabama Medical Center and an international medical graduate from Pakistan. She completed her medical training at Fatima Jinnah Medical University, an all-women’s medical school in Lahore, a vibrant city known for its rich history, culture, and academic tradition. Now training in the heart of the American South, she has grown to appreciate the region’s hospitality and slower pace of life. She is passionate about improving patient outcomes through research, advocacy, and community outreach. Outside of work, Dr. Munir enjoys traveling, experimenting with new recipes, and fitting in workouts whenever her schedule allows.
