October 7, 2025 // Southern Medical Association

The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Kevin Lillis, MPH, BSN, to SMA’s Physician-in-Training (PIT) Committee.

Kevin is currently a third-year medical student at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine in Dothan, Alabama. He graduated with his BSN from Harding University and received his MPH from Emory University. Before starting medical school, he worked as a Neuro ICU nurse for 12 years and held various teaching and leadership roles during that time.

Throughout his nursing and teaching career, Kevin developed a deep passion for empowering others to grow as professionals and caregivers. "From my earliest exposure to education through my family of teachers to my years mentoring nursing students, I’ve learned to do more than teach," he shared. "I’ve learned to empower and inspire students as they transition from learners today to the professionals of tomorrow." Kevin hopes to combine his nursing and public health background with his medical training to become a Family Medicine/OB physician serving rural, resource-poor communities while helping shape and support the next generation of physicians.
