No matter what year you are in Medical School, you can apply for SMA Scholarships.
With each passing year, as individuals and businesses alike continue to support SMA, our list of scholarship offerings grows. So, if you are submitting your scholarship application on a date beyond the stated deadline on this page, your application will be considered during our next scholarship season.

Deadline to Submit an Application: August 22, 2022 11:59 PM CST
Any submission received after this date will be considered (if qualified) during our next scholarship season.
- All applicants must be rising 4th year medical students set to graduate in May/June 2023.
- Must be an SMA Member (membership is FREE for medical students). Not a member? Click here to join: https://sma.org/membership/member-signup/student/
- Must be currently enrolled in an accredited U.S. allopathic or osteopathic medical school.
- Must be permanent residents or citizens of the United States, or have DACA status.
Scholarship Recipient Requirements
Scholarship recipients must be willing to consent to interview(s), photography, audio recording, video recording and its/their release, publication, exhibition, or reproduction to be used for social media, webcasts, promotional purposes, telecasts, advertising, inclusion on web sites, or for any other purpose(s) that SMA’s Board, and/or staff representatives deems fit to use.
Scholarship recipients will have the option to attend the SMA Annual Assembly, taking place October 28-30 in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee, in-person with a $500 travel stipend, or may accept their scholarship award virtually. Video recordings of acceptance may also be requested.

- Community Service
- Research/Medical Education
- Other Interests
- Upload the following through the online portal
- Letter of enrollment or letter of good standing on medical school letterhead
- Medical school transcript (copy/unofficial transcript acceptable)
- Resume/CV - (Optional, and must be uploaded at the time of submission)
Applications, including all required recommendation letters and supporting documents, will ONLY be accepted through the online portal at sma.org/scholarships.
We will NOT accept documents via email, mail and/or fax. Please make sure that you have checked all of your answers, proofread carefully, and have uploaded ALL documents prior to submission. Once you have completed all tasks, make sure that you have selected "SUBMIT". Once you have submitted your application, you will receive an automated email confirmation of receipt, along with a copy of your submission.
Materials must be submitted through the application portal on or before August 22, 2022, 11:59 PM CST. Applications received after the deadline will not be considered for this round of scholarships. Award recipients will be notified via email in September. Any submission received after this date will be considered (if qualified) during our next scholarship season.
