Helping Each Other Thrive: How Medical Associations Can Benefit Physicians-in-Training

Medical training is a time of growth and discovery. It can also be challenging for students not only due to stress and the workload but also in terms of navigating educational debt, personal development, dealing with death and grief as we gain exposure working with patients, and navigating the culture of medicine. In this podcast, we discuss some of the common challenges faced by medical trainees and how SMA can provide resources to help students deal with these issues.

Learning Objectives:

At the end of this podcast, the listener should learn the following:

  1. How medical organizations can help students to find a community and a forum where they can talk openly about their experiences during training.
  2. A few tips for students who are looking to gain more experience in a certain specialty as well as advocacy and community outreach.
  3. The goals of SMA’s physicians-in-training leadership group and some of the resources provided that can help students during their training.
