Siva Paladugu, MS, Appointed to SMA’s Physicians-in-Training Committee
The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is pleased to announce the appointment of Siva Paladugu, MS, to SMA’s Physician-in-Training (PIT) Committee.
Siva is a second-year medical student at Tulane School of Medicine with an interest in pursuing a career in surgery. His research experience spans reconstructive surgery, burn care, trauma, and endocrine surgery. In addition to academics, he volunteers at a local student-run clinic that provides care to underserved communities in New Orleans. Outside of medicine, Siva enjoys playing pickleball and skateboarding.
He shared that his interest in joining the Physicians-in-Training Leadership Committee stems from his own journey in research and the importance of mentorship. “When I first tried to get involved in clinical research, the experience was tough—chaotic and disorganized, leaving me unsure of how to contribute," he recalled. “That changed when I began working with a mentor who guided me through each step and gave me the tools to succeed. I want to create that same kind of supportive environment for other students, so they feel confident rather than overwhelmed as they begin their own research and clinical journeys.”
