Commentary on "Patient Satisfaction with Bedside Teaching Rounds Compared with Nonbedside Rounds"
Abstract
Despite the rapidly evolving medical landscape, many of us remain firmly entrenched in the philosophy prevalent at the time we trained--that patients admitted to the hospital will be highly satisfied if we make a rapid and correct diagnosis, initiate prompt and state-of-the-art therapy, and enact a timely discharge with appropriate follow-up. We also are realizing, however, that so much more dictates the patient experience: noise at night, ability to sleep, hospital cleanliness, food quality, interdisciplinary cooperation, room temperature, how pain is addressed, whether spiritual needs are met, clinician empathy, and so forth. This content is limited to qualifying members.
