Cover Your Assets: Lawsuit Protection—How to Safeguard Yourself, Your Family, and Your Business in the Litigation Jungle
Abstract
It is unfortunate that in American society, more than 90 million lawsuits are filed each year. Regrettably, many of these lawsuits are not the result of the individual’s actions but are filed as a result of acts of omission because the individual who is sued did not take appropriate actions before the lawsuit. The purpose of the book, titledCover Your Assets: Lawsuit Protection, is to offer advice on how to minimize the risk of being sued. The 256-page book is well written and organized. It is divided into two sections. The first, comprising 16 chapters, discusses the protection of one’s own assets and includes chapters on avoiding liability for the action of one’s children, the dangers of voluntary work, the risks of serving as an officer or director, the liability of giving advice, the dangers of joint ownership, and how to protect one’s assets in divorce. The second section, comprising 11 chapters, provides advice about the protection of business assets. Each chapter stands on its own and is concise and easy to read. Practical advice on how to avoid lawsuits is offered, and case studies are often used to crystallize certain points made in the chapter. An action checklist is included at the end of each chapter to highlight the main issues discussed in the chapter. I recommend this book to readers. This content is limited to qualifying members.
