Facilitating Smoking Cessation in America’s Highest Risk Population: Community-Centered Interventions in Rural Appalachian Kentucky
Abstract
Cigarette smoking in rural Appalachian Kentucky remains prevalent, and smoking cessation interventions continue to be challenged by a host of social and behavioral factors. Appalachian Kentucky has one of the highest smoking rates in the United States, with between 24% and 34% of adults using tobacco compared with 21% nationwide, contributing to increased morbidity and decreased life expectancy for Appalachian Kentuckians relative to the general US population.1,2This content is limited to qualifying members.
