Abstract
Stop reading for a moment to follow these instructions: get up from your chair and find a tape measure. Put it around your waist measuring the circumference at the level of the superior iliac crest. If the result you obtain is greater than 40 inches if you are male, or 35 inches if you are female, you are obese and you should read the remainder of this article while walking on a treadmill or riding a stationary bicycle. If you are not obese, you may already be exercising while reading, genetically blessed, or both. Two thirds of Americans are overweight or obese.1 The number of overweight people worldwide exceeds—by double!—the number who are malnourished.2,3This content is limited to qualifying members.
