Recognition of Benign Transient Hyperphosphatasemia

Authors: Toshio Okazaki, PhD, Mitsuyuki Suzuki, BSc, Tatsuo Nagai, MD

Abstract

To the Editor:

We read with interest the article by Tolaymat and de Melo 1describing benign transient hyperphosphatasemia (BTH) of infancy and childhood. They recommended that the condition be identified at the earliest possible stage without extensive, superfluous evaluation. What they did not describe, however, was how to recognize patients with BTH. We have found a simple, rapid method of doing so.
