Abstract
Sex and the Heart: More to Know About Sexual Dysfunction in Patients with Heart Failure
The prevalence of erectile dysfunction in male patients with coronary atherosclerotic diseases has been well documented. Although much research has been done on male erectile dysfunction and the heart, much remains to be conducted on the prevalence of sexual dysfunction in men after heart transplantation. Also, even though symptoms such as diabetes, smoking, and hypertension contribute to sexual dysfunction in both men and women, research has been sparingly conducted on how sexual dysfunction affects women. An article by Mandras et al entitled Sexual Activity and Chronic Heart Failure raises awareness of addressing sexual problems among physicians treating heart failure patients.
