special Considerations in Resurfacing Hand Injuries with the Groin Flap

Authors: WILLIAM B. NICKELL MD

Abstract

Abstract:Use of the groin flap has permitted the reconstructive surgeon to resurface major avulsive injuries of the upper extremity with an ease not previously possible. Careful attention to details of design, elevation, delay, and transection of the flap must be exercised, however, if a well-conceived reconstruction is not to end as a well-executed disaster. Considerations essential for successful use of this flap are defined. Cases presented illustrate problems in the use of the groin flap.
