Tissue Adhesive as an Adjunct in Hair Transplantation

Authors: TOLBERT S. WILKINSON MD, JOSE IGLESIAS MD

Abstract

Abstract:Several of the major disadvantages of hair transplantation by the plug or strip method have been corrected by the use of a nontoxic tissue adhesive, isobutyl-2-cyanoacrylate. Annoying incidences of slippage of plugs during the operative procedure and elevation of the plugs above the surface causing a “cobblestone” appearance can be avoided by deep insertion of the plugs and application of droplets of tissue adhesive. Drying within 5 to 15 seconds enables the operator to proceed more rapidly with the hair transplantation. Adhesive is also useful for reinforcing the suture lines for strip grafting. Both prevent later dislodgement and make wearing excessive bandages unnecessary.
