Southern Region Burn Conference
In 1987, a group of southeastern burn directors came together with a shared vision of creating an annual regional conference that would offer comprehensive educational programs for all members of their burn teams. Alan R. Dimick, MD, whose passion and leadership were instrumental in establishing this initiative, founded the Southern Region Burn Conference which has since become a dynamic and enriching learning resource for burn care teams across the region. It continues to serve as an invaluable platform for professionals across all burn care disciplines and career stages, fostering the exchange of knowledge as well as collaboration that advances the field of burn care.

All meeting attendees are highly motivated to learn more about the latest advances in practice, technology, burn care products, and trends for the future.
Description
Burn care is a dynamic field that requires continuous education and training to keep pace with advancements in clinical protocols, treatment modalities, and rehabilitation techniques. Current practice gaps include insufficient implementation of updated clinical guidelines, variability in burn care management across institutions, and limited integration of multidisciplinary approaches to patient care. Additionally, healthcare professionals may lack access to the latest research on interventions, outcomes, and cost-effective applications of resources in burn care. These gaps hinder optimal patient outcomes and highlight the need for targeted education and collaboration among the burn care team.
This meeting is designed to address these gaps by bringing together a diverse group of healthcare professionals, including physicians, nurses, first responders, hospital administrators, and others dedicated to burn care. The program will focus on exploring current interventions, research, protocols, and pathways for enhancing patient care. By providing a platform for discussion, the activity aims to foster collaboration, standardize best practices, and integrate evidence-based approaches to improve patient outcomes in burn care.
Learning Objectives
- Enhance knowledge of current burn care interventions: Participants will be able to identify and apply evidence-based treatment protocols, including wound care, infection control, and pain management strategies, for improved patient outcomes.
- Develop skills for effective multidisciplinary collaboration: Attendees will gain the ability to work as part of a burn care team, integrating the roles of physicians, nurses, therapists, and other specialists to optimize patient care throughout the burn recovery process.
- Evaluate cost-effective burn care strategies: Participants will learn to assess and implement treatment modalities that balance clinical effectiveness with cost-efficiency, ensuring sustainable care delivery in burn centers.
Target Audience
The 38th Annual Burn Care Meeting is designed for a multidisciplinary audience, including burn care physicians (such as plastic surgeons, trauma surgeons, and emergency physicians), nurses, physical and occupational therapists, rehabilitation specialists, and burn center administrators. The event also targets healthcare providers involved in emergency or critical care, as well as medical residents and fellows specializing in burn care, trauma, or related fields. This diverse group will benefit from comprehensive discussions on the latest interventions, treatment protocols, and rehabilitation strategies in burn care, enhancing collaboration and improving patient outcomes across all stages of burn treatment and recovery.
