Modalities to Achieve Hypertension Control in Clinical Practice: A Call to Action

Despite safe and effective treatment for hypertension, the awareness, treatment, and control rates for hypertension are disappointing, including in the United States (hypertension control rates of approximately 50-60 percent). Given these rather dismal control rates it is clear that different approaches to the detection, management, and treatment of hypertension is sorely needed. Newer modalities to approach the hypertensive patient could include the use of smaller pharmacologic formularies and fixed-dose combination anti-hypertensive agents, including in the initial treatment of the hypertension.
