Dedicated to the future of medicine by developing tomorrow’s leaders of medicine, SMA’s Physicians-in-Training Leadership Conference provides opportunities for Medical Students and Residents to: present their research through abstract competitions for cash awards, participate in hands-on workshops and interactive activities designed for interprofessional learning, fulfill Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education requirements related to participation in scholarly activities, and network with colleagues from other medical schools and residency programs.
Southern Medical Association’s Virtual Abstract Competition offers medical students, residents, and fellows from all over the country an opportunity to compete for an opportunity to present their projects at the Association’s annual conference. This is a preliminary competition for the Physicians-in-Training with the top 10 oral presentations and the top 10 poster presentations from this virtual event advancing and presenting in person at SMA’s Annual Scientific Assembly.
Each year, the Southern Medical Association allocates funds to provide travel grants for medical students, residents, and fellows who are presenting at an official SMA activity. These grants are intended to help defray travel and lodging expenses and support physicians-in-training as they share their work and engage with the broader medical community. Eligible applicants may receive up to $500 in reimbursement for documented travel-related expenses, such as transportation and accommodations.
With each passing year, the number of SMA's medical student scholarships grows. You can APPLY anytime. If your application is submitted during our scholarship application window, your application will be reviewed for consideration during that period. If you application is submitted outside of the submission window, your application will be reviewed for consideration during that next scheduled submission period. Join Physicians-in-Training today and apply for all of our available scholarships!
The SMA Physicians-in-Training Mentoring Program aims to foster development and growth of both established physician or physician-in-training mentors and physician-in-training mentees through promoting genuine, long-term relationships between individuals with differing levels of experience in the medical field. SMA is the perfect environment for such a program, given that its membership is not limited by specialty or by level of training.
