Assembly Faculty Spotlight: Christine Laronga, MD, FACS

The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is proud to feature Christine Laronga, MD, FACS, as a speaker for the Association's 117th Annual Scientific Assembly taking place November 13-15, 2025 in New Orleans.

Dr. Laronga, is a surgical oncologist specializing in breast cancer at the Moffitt Cancer Center’s Center for Women’s Oncology in Tampa, Florida. She is dedicated to improving women’s lives through both her clinical care and research, treating a wide range of breast conditions from benign cysts to metastatic cancer. Dr. Laronga is a principal investigator for several ground-breaking procedures including skin-sparing techniques after mastectomy and the use of liposuction to treat arm lymphedema resulting from breast cancer treatment. Her research also includes work in proteomics, the study of protein markers in tissue and blood.

Dr. Laronga is a member of the National Comprehensive Cancer Network’s breast risk reduction panel, treasurer of the international Association of Women Surgeons, and a grant reviewer for the American Cancer Society’s Clinical Cancer and Epidemiology section. She also holds roles with the National Consortium of Breast Centers and serves as Florida State Chair for the American College of Surgeons’ Commission on Cancer. In addition, Dr. Laronga is an author, speaker at scientific meetings, and serves on editorial boards for several medical journals. She completed her medical education and general surgery training at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, followed by a surgical oncology fellowship at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center.
