Assembly Faculty Spotlight: Daniel Morris, MD

The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is proud to feature Daniel Morris, MD, for his session Cancer Screening and Advancements in Early Cancer Detection, taking place on Saturday, November 15 during SMA's Annual Scientific Assembly in New Orleans.

In this session, Dr. Morris will present an up-to-date overview of current cancer screening practices, drawing on the latest recommendations from the U.S. Preventive Services Task Force (USPSTF). Attendees can expect to gain practical guidance on evidence-based screening protocols for breast, colorectal, cervical, lung, and prostate cancers, tailored to support early detection efforts across diverse care settings.

Dr. Morris will also explore the future of screening, introducing emerging technologies such as Multi-Cancer Early Detection (MCED) tests and their potential to transform population health outcomes. This session is designed with physicians, primary care providers, and public health professionals in mind, offering actionable strategies to enhance screening programs and improve patient care.

With more than 35 years of experience in medical oncology, Dr. Morris began his career at Moffitt Cancer Center before moving into private practice in Naples, Florida, where he chaired the tumor board for many years. A graduate of the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, he completed his training at the University of South Florida in Tampa. An accomplished speaker and author, Dr. Morris remains actively engaged in the Florida Society of Clinical Oncology and recently participated in the ASCO Advocacy Summit in Washington, D.C.
