Assembly Faculty Spotlight: Smita Prasad, MD, MBA, MPH, FASAM
The Southern Medical Association (SMA) is proud to feature Smita Prasad, MD, MBA, MPH, FASAM, as a speaker for the Association's 117th Annual Scientific Assembly taking place November 13-15, 2025 in New Orleans.
Dr. Smita Prasad is an Assistant Professor of Addiction Medicine at Tulane University School of Medicine. She is board certified in Family Medicine by the American Board of Family Medicine and in Addiction Medicine by the American Board of Preventive Medicine. Dr. Prasad completed her residency at the Baton Rouge General Family Medicine Residency Program in 2016 and her fellowship in Addiction Medicine at Tulane University, where she was the second graduate of the program. She provides outpatient care at the Tulane Addiction Medicine Clinic and serves as Medical Director of the Louisiana Addictive Disorder Regulatory Authority Board and President of the Louisiana Society of Addiction Medicine. Actively engaged in organized medicine, she serves as a delegate and alternate delegate for the Louisiana State Medical Society. In addition, she volunteers as a board member for Unbranded, a nonprofit supporting victims of human trafficking and domestic violence. Dr. Prasad was recognized as a 2024 Health Care Hero by New Orleans CityBusiness.
