Abstract

AbstractA lacrimal sac mass with the usual clinical symptoms associated with lacrimal sac compression was found to be inverted papilloma arising in the maxillary sinus. No similar case in the literature was found. Characteristically, the earliest symptom of these tumors is nasal obstruction. Inverted papilloma is a type, of epithelial papilloma which arises in the accessory nasal sinuses or nasal cavity. These tumors are considered benign; however, they have a high recurrence rate and the potential for malignant degeneration. Radiation therapy is not recommended, since it is believed in some cases to lead to malignant degeneration and since it does not seem to inhibit recurrence. Otolaryngologic consultation and reexptoration are recommended strongly in view of the nature and origin of the tumor.
