Hypercalcemia in Leukemia
Abstract
Abstract: Hypercalcemia was found to be present in four out of 182 patients who had serum calcium values determined sometime during the course of leukemia. Two of these patients had chronic lymphatic leukemia and one each had acute myeloid leukemia and chronic myeloid leukemia. Successful freatment of the hypercalcemia requires treatment and control of the leukemia while measures aimed at reducing the serum calcium level are only of temporary benefit. The hypercalcemia often is associated with resorption of bone, but the cause of this resorption is unknown. This content is limited to qualifying members.
