Male Sexual Dysfunction: Evaluation and Treatment

Authors: ROBERT P. NELSON MD

Abstract

ABSTRACT: This review of the causes of erectile dysfunction and the salient points involving the history and physical examination outlines the studies necessary to distinguish between organic and psychologic causes and to further delineate the specific organic causes. Various types of treatment for organic dysfunction, such as oral, intramuscular, or intracorporeal pharmacologic manipulation and artificial external penile devices, provide alternatives to internal prostheses. The types of prostheses available and the complications associated with each are thoroughly reviewed, followed by a brief outline of the future for the treatment of erectile dysfunction.
