One Hundred Consecutives Cases of Retinal Detachment

Authors: WILLIAM H. JARRETT H MD

Abstract

Abstract:One hundred consecutive cases of rhegmatogenous retinal detachment are reviewed. Surgical aphakia was present in 47|X% of these eyes. Twenty-two percent of these patients had a retinal detachment in the fellow eye, either recent or remote, and one patient not included in this series has subsequently developed a detachment in his fellow eye. Various modifications of the scleral buckling procedure were used to repair the detachments, with an anatomic reattachment rate of 92|X%. In 18|X% of these cases, fluid drainage was not necessary at the time of operation.
